Xscape Announces Reunion

Xscape is comin’ right back at ‘cha.

Nineteen years after the group’s last album Traces of My Lipstick, LaTocha Scott, Tamika Scott, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, and Kandi Burruss have announced the crew’s revival. “It’s official,” Tocha wrote on Instagram. “Xscape is Back. Thanks to all of our fans for your prayers & your loyalty.”

Peers are already celebrating the group’s reunion. “Pretty dope to hear the women of Xscape say they’re going to work and tour again,” said Monica. “It’s getting real out here again and I love it.”

Xscape rose to prominence with their 1993 debut, Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha. In total, they’ve released three albums, including Off the Hook and Traces of My Lipstick. Their hits include “Just Kickin’ It,” “Understanding,” “The Arms of the One Who Loves You,” “My Little Secret,” “Feels So Good,” and “Who Can I Run To.”

But bad blood kept Xscape from reuniting over the years. In 2013, Kandi revealed that she was upset with Tamika for spreading rumors that she’d had sex with Jermaine Dupri’s father Michael Mauldin. “To this day now, I have to see people try to say that I had sex with Jermaine’s father,” Burruss told V-103 at the time. “She said that just to make me look bad to people. She came back to apologize to me, but she never apologized in public…It’s not true. It was a flat-out lie. When people do stuff to try to damage you or bring you down to the public, that’s hateful.”

Today, however, the group is turning the page. According to Kandi, the hatchet was buried after a conversation that took place on Monday (Feb. 27). “It was emotional, but then we had a real conversation, which we haven’t had in a long time,” she said. “I was able to let it go after that.”

Tamika added: “Now, we grown. We gon’ let the bygones be bygones. It’s the last time you will hear this. Anything after this is going to be our legacy and what we doing next.”

The group is reunited, but nothing new has been confirmed. “We’ve been approached about a lot of different opportunities,” said Kandi. “I don’t like to confirm anything until the ink dries, but I definitely can say that I am looking forward to performing again with my group members.”

Tocha concurred. “We definitely have different offers on the table,” she said. “We’re just taking our time to make sure that we have everything right and in order, but you guys will see us perform again. That’s for sure.”

Chance the Rapper Talks Grammys, Independence, & Trump with Katie Couric

Chance the Rapper has been hanging out with Lil Wayne, DJ Khaled, and Migos recently, but he’s also been talking to another big name: Katie Couric.

Joining the famed journalist for Yahoo! News, Chano opened up about a variety of topics, including his refusal to sign to a record label. “I think there’s a lot of attention on me not signing a record deal, but I also don’t believe in publishing deals or traditional upper management style of music being distributed,” he said. “I get to choose how much my music costs, when my music gets released, when I go on tour, who I work with, what movies I work with.”

Asked if he would ever consider signing with a label, the Coloring Book rapper continued: “No, but do I sometimes think, ‘Dang, this would be much easier if I had a machine behind me?’ Yeah, I think about it all the time.”

For now, he says he makes most of his money off merch. “Luckily, I have a very successful merchandise business,” he said. “I sell merchandise online at ChanceRaps.com. That’s my main revenue. Also, you can buy tickets to any of my shows on ChanceRaps.com. And, reinvesting in myself and being faithful to my consumers and my God, I’m always covered.”

See more of Chano’s Couric interview and read highlights from the conversation below.

On violence in Chicago: “The respect for life is little [to] none in the city because we don’t really feel like people care about us. There’s a lot of things that I wasn’t exposed to or didn’t understand or know about until I went downtown. It’s literally like a different city over there. The violence in Chicago is isolated to certain parts. Maybe if that violence moved outside of those same parameters, maybe people would feel like it’s important to do something or take action.”

On the Grammys: “It’s still unreal to me. There’s nothing like it. All of that time, up until the Grammys, was the craziest time of my life. You spend weeks and weeks working on a performance and once it happens, it just kind of bookends it. I just can’t wait for the next preparation time.”

On Donald Trump: “When I said it sounded like he was going to war [with Chicago], I was saying that for people who felt like he sounded like that because it does kind of sound like he’s saying that, but he could be meaning that, from a federal place, he would be coming in and using his influence to start funding some of the stuff that’s been at an impact. If that’s what he meant, that would be awesome.”

On his chest tattoo: “It’s a backwards tattoo that says ‘Get back to work.’ It’s a mirror tattoo, which is a concept I created. Basically, it’s a reminder that I’m not doing enough.”

Friends with benefits sounds like the best of both worlds. You get what you want, without having to do much in return.

What could be better than that?

For starters, it would be better if things were that easy.

FWB should be treated like a business arrangement. Guidelines and expectations should be considered before diving in.

Then, you’ll be ready to have all the fun you want.

Host of VH1’s Couple’s Therapy & New York Times best-selling author Dr. Mike Dow educated us on what to know before rolling around in the hay.

Dr. Mike Dow says, “There’s one true mantra when it comes to [FWB] that also happens to be the title of that movie where Meryl Streep starts having sex with her ex: it’s complicated… it’s important to get real about love and sex.” You don’t want to be the person crying their eyes out at the end of the movie!

Here are some important ground rules to establish:

1. No Family Affairs
“Your brother’s wedding is a place you take the man or woman you’re going to probably get engaged to—not the [one] you can never see yourself marrying.” Plus, who needs the questions anyway? Just avoid it all together.
2. Always Split the Bill
“Chivalry, romance, and flowers are for relationships that turn into something more—not FWB.” Remember, you two are like business partners. Keep it simple!
3. Keep Personal Life and FWB Separate
This one is super important. “You’re probably going to get some opinions you may not want… personal life 411 is just going to make this relationship feel more personal, intimate, and special.” People, this is literally everything you are trying to avoid. You want casual, hot, and easy.
4. No Consistent Sleepovers
“Constant sleepovers are going to make you more likely to form romantic feelings for someone.” By all means, if you are in a situation where you feel like it isn’t safe to go home (i.e. drunk driving, too late, etc.), and the option to stay was offered, then by all means, do so. One night won’t kill the FWB vibe. However, four or five nights a week might do the trick.

It’s crucial to be open about what you expect to get out of FWB. “Don’t pine away hoping for a Justin Timberlake/Mila Kunis happy ending [from the movie Friends With Benefits,] when your guy may be more of a Tiger Woods before sex rehab… I’m the love doctor who sees how things really workout when people end up crying their eyes out in my office when things go south.”

Remember, the main thing here is to have fun, and NO crying!

Make sure you and your partner both want the same things. Establish with your partner what you desire out of this arrangement, emotionally and physically. “Be honest with yourself and honest with your partner about what’s really going on,” Dr. Mike says. “Is this: just sex and no friendship? Is it sex with a possibility of something more? Is this sex with a simultaneous friendship? Make sure both of you are really on the same page here.”

As always, communication is key, people!

The Low Down

There are a lot of benefits to having great sex. It’s a great stress relief, can help you look young, and of course, practice makes perfect.

Don’t forget to protect your health, and your heart. Dr. Mike says “only monogamy and [self pleasure] are 100% safe… I always recommend acting as if you don’t know what he or she may have recently picked up. Vaccines, birth control, choosing low risk behaviors, and condoms are all decisions you can talk to your doctor about.”

Just as important as your health and your heart, is your cognitive being. Sometimes people gravitate towards a friend with benefits situation because there is an underlying issue in their lives. “It’s not okay [to carry out a #FWB relationship] if you’re using to it self-medicate low self worth, a broken heart, or depression… once those are treated, you can really know if you truly want that #FWB relationship.” If there is something rotten in your life, sprinkling some sugar on it won’t make it better.

One last piece of advice from Auntie Wendy: “This is raw, animalistic attraction! This is scratching an itch! Don’t look him in the eyes… No candlelight dinners; no cuddling and spooning. Wham, bam, thank you, ma’am. Got it? Then go get it, girl.”
