New Music: Gucci Mane & Nicki Minaj – ‘Make Love’

It’s Guwop and Barbie. Gucci Mane and Nicki Minaj put their differences aside and reunite on “Make Love,” a surprise single which arrived on Thursday night (Feb. 23). Gucci goes first, boasting about “makin’ money like I’m makin’ sweet love” and his Oct. 17 wedding to fiancée Keyshia Ka’oir.

“You talkin’ crazy / I’m tryna book Beyoncé for my wedding date / I’m the type of ni**a spend a million on a wedding cake,” he raps.

Nicki comes through with one of her best verses to date.

“I rep Queens where they listen to a bunch of Nas / I’m a yes and these bitches is a bunch of nahs,” she raps. “Bitch, I’m ‘The Greatest’ / No Kendrick and no Sia / I’m the iPhone, you the Nokia.”

She also takes shots at the competition. “Your career gon’ be with Anna Nicole with your dumbass face,” she spits. “You see silly rabbit / To be the queen of rap, you gotta sell records, you gotta get plaques / S plural like the S on my chest / Now sit your dumbass down, you got a F on your test.”

Look out for the video next. Earlier this month, Gucci and Nicki teased photos from what appeared to be a video shoot.

This is the second Nicki song to drop today following Jason Derulo’s “Swalla.”

New Music: Calvin Harris feat. Frank Ocean & Migos – ‘Slide’

After teasing his new single “Slide,” Calvin Harris shines a spotlight on his highly-anticipated collaboration with Frank Ocean and Migos.

“Do you slide on all your nights like this?” sings Frank on the hook. “Do you try on all your nights like this?”

Over the slick dance floor-ready instrumental, Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff blend their raps and ad-libs with Frank’s trademark vocals. “Swallow the bottle as I sit back and smoke gelato,” raps Offset. “Walk in my mansion, 20,000 painting, Picasso.”

“Slide” comes shortly after Harris announced his goal of unleashing uplifting music this year. “More joyful music in 2017,” he recently tweeted. “I feel like it’s missing from the world. And it was missing from my life. So I created it. So excited to share this with you !!! !! Can u tell…In 2017 I’m making music to make your soul happy !!!!”

Last year, Harris teamed up with Rihanna for “This Is What You Came For”. This year, he’s vowed to release 10 new songs, possibly making up a new album. If so, it will be his fifth, a follow-up to 2014’s Motion.

Frank is coming off the back-to-back releases of Endless and Blonde while Migos is celebrating the success of their latest album Culture.

Caitlyn Jenner Calls Out Trump Over Transgender Bathroom Rollback

Civil rights groups, especially those representing LGBTQ rights, were up in arms Thursday (February 23) after Trump announced he was stripping transgender students of protections put in place by President Obama.

The Trump administration on Wednesday (February 22) announced it was revoking federal guidelines allowing transgender students the right of using public school restrooms that matched their gender identity.

Notable transgender public figure Caitlyn Jenner weighed in on the decision Thursday.

“Finally I have a message for President Trump. From, well, one republican to another,” she said in a video posted to her Instagram. “This is a disaster. And you can still fix it. You made a promise to the LGBTQ community. Call me,” Jenner finished.

Swae Lee Drops Some Truth: Don't Worry About Talk, Just Get the Money

Swae Lee may only be 21, but the Rae Sremmurd rapper seems wise beyond his years. In a recent Instagram post, Lee dropped some serious knowledge for everyone stressing over the wrong things.

“Don’t worry about what these muthaf***as say,” says Lee. “They gonna say dumb s**t. Get the bag. Srem life.”

With success comes hate, as many rappers have attested to, including Boosie Badass, who told VladTV that many rappers have died in their city over haters. Seems like Swae is taking this knowledge to heart and keeping his eye on the prize.

Adrien Broner Flexes with a Bag Full of Money and a Pile of Diamonds

Pro boxer Adrien Broner seems to be taking a queue from Mayweather in a recent video posted to Instagram. In the clip, the 27-year-old champ shows off a ridiculous collection of jewelry and cash.

“Oh yeah…,” says Broner while panning his phone over a bag absolutely filled with diamond-encrusted chains and trinkets. “With the racks too,” he continues, showing off another bag stuffed with 50 and 100’s.

“L.A. ‘Bout to go have some fun and spend some money,” Broner says in the clip. Check it out up top.

Stream Future’s New Album ‘HNDRXX’

Exactly one week after dropping his self-titled album, Future comes back around with HNDRXX.

The 17-track project, which features Rihanna (“Selfish”) and The Weeknd (“Comin Out Strong”), with production from DJ Mustard (“Damage”) and Metro Boomin (“My Collection”), is an “honest” portrayal of the Freeband Gang rapper’s life.

HNDRXX is more personal,” he told Beats 1. “This is the Honest album I was supposed to have been honest about. When it was time to have the Honest album [in 2014], I was like, ‘Okay.’ I was just using it as a title instead of being able to actually be honest in the music. This is it. This is HNDRXX. This is me opening up and letting it all out so I can moved past it and certain things, I won’t have to speak on it again.”

That begins with “My Collection,” an opening track that Future predicted may raise some eyebrows. “It might get attention,” he said. “It might get more attention than I want it to get, it might get attention I thought it wouldn’t get, it might get the wrong attention, it might get great attention. Who knows? I just know it’s a song I feel good about. I feel great about everything that I’m saying.”

The album is being released, under some controversy, through Epic, Freebandz, and A1. The latter imprint belongs to Rocko, who is currently involved in an ongoing feud with Future. Rocko sued Hendrix for $10 million last year, claiming he was cut out of a side deal with Epic. There are reports that both albums are part of a settlement between the parties. During a back-and-forth exchange on Instagram this week, Future called Rocko a “con man,” continuing the bad blood.

But HNDRXX also comes with good news. It follows last week’s Future, which is reportedly on its way to topping the Billboard 200 with 145-155,000 units in its opening week. It continues an impressive streak for Hendrix, who’s reached No. 1 with 2015’s DS2, 2015’s What a Time To Be Alive, his joint project with Drake, and 2016’s EVOL.

Stream the album Future says he “always wanted to make” below.

Video: Young Thug – ‘Safe’

In the midst of touring with Drake overseas, Young Thug delivers a video for his new song “Safe.” Produced by frequent collaborator Wheezy, the track finds him rapping about snakes and his safety.

“I spend more money on security than I make to be safe,” confesses Thugger.

Meanwhile, the Garfield Larmond-directed visual finds the fashionable MC decked out in a white denim Dior jacket while roaming through an all-white hallway and sipping Drake’s whiskey, Virginia Black.

“Safe” marks Thug’s first solo release since last year’s JEFFERY project. But in the meantime, he’s been busy collaborating with the likes of Young Scooter, Birdman, and Lil Durk.

Exclusive: Trina Teases ‘Intense’ Collaboration with Lil Wayne

As she gears up to unleash her first studio album in seven years, Trina opens up about what she’s been working on and what fans can expect from the star-studded set.

Stopping by Rap-Up HQ, the self-proclaimed “Baddest Bitch” also revealed what it was like to appear in Frank Ocean’s stunning Blonde visual for “Nikes.”

“It just kind of happened,” she said. “He just spoke with my manager and my manager hit me like, ‘Yo, Frank Ocean wants you to do his video.’ I was like, ‘Me? What am I gonna do in the video?’ He was like, ‘No, it’s gonna be a real dope video. It’s gonna be real simple.’”

With that, Trina flew to London to meet Frank and shoot her scene. “Such a sweet guy,” she added. “Very nice guy, very humble, very respectful guy. He came out, introduced himself, we took a picture, and nobody put the pictures out. We wanted to wait for the video. Then I just stood against a wall and [a photographer] shot Polaroids. It was just done. It was that simple and that fast.”

Now, Trina is looking forward to dropping the follow-up to 2010’s Amazin’. She’s already released a video for her lead single “Damn” featuring Tory Lanez, and she has more heaters on deck.

Executive produced by Rico Love, the yet-to-be-titled LP also features 2 Chainz, Boosie Badazz, Plies, Kelly Price, and her ex Lil Wayne, who guests on the Audio Jones-produced “Situations,” described as “uptempo” and “intense.”

She also recently shot a video for the K. Michelle-assisted “If It Ain’t Me,” a song that reminds Trina of her Kelly Rowland collab, “Here We Go.” “It’s like a new version of that, a new 2017 version,” she said. “It’s a dope record. We’re about to shoot a video for that really soon. I’m excited. Working with K. Michelle is easy. There’s a great chemistry with me and her so that was one thing that made it even more of a blessing for her to be on the record.”

With a new album on the way, Trina may also find herself on television, as she’s currently flirting with a role on VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop.”

“I’ve been listening to [producers] and I’ve been talking to them, but I still have my [reservations] about it,” she said. “There are a few things about it that I’m unsure about. I watch reality shows a lot and it’s pretty entertaining, so it’s more, for myself, what do I want to get out of reality TV, if I decided to do that? That’s my whole issue with it. I don’t know. We’ll see what happens.”

While Trina hasn’t released an album in seven years, she hasn’t been silent on the music front. In fact, she released her Dynasty 6 EP in December. Last year, she also dropped a slew of freestyles and paid tribute to Missy Elliott at VH1’s “Hip Hop Honors.”
