Nicki Minaj Performs Medley at NBA Awards

Ballin’. The first-ever NBA Awards kicked off with a bang thanks to host Drake and a slam dunk performance from Nicki Minaj. Live from Basketball City in New York, the rap queen ruled the stage with a Roman-themed medley of hits.

First up, 2 Chainz emerged in a Gucci robe to perform their new collaboration “Realize.” Shortly after, Nicki entered on a gold bed, carried by four shirtless men. Dressed in a long fur coat and white patent leather outfit, she rapped her verse on the Pretty Girls Like Trap Music cut, including her Remy Ma diss.

After stepping onto the stage, she segued into “No Frauds,” rocking pink hair down to her knees. As dancers flanked her, she capped off the six-minute set with her Katy Perry collaboration “Swish Swish.”

While Drake didn’t join her, her Young Money labelmate did host the two-hour show, appearing in comedic bits with Will Ferrell and Shaquille O’Neal.

Chris Brown and Karrueche Keep Their Distance at BET Awards

Chris Brown and Karrueche Tran did not cross paths at the BET Awards on Sunday (June 25).

The network reportedly made special plans to help the exes avoid one another in the wake of a five-year restraining order that Tran recently won against Brown.

According to TMZ, one of those accommodations included having Tran in a holding room during Brown’s performance of “Privacy” and “Party” with Gucci Mane. Production sources say that Tran did not watch the performance.

Brown — who must remain 100 yards away from Tran — reportedly remained backstage throughout the show, avoiding the crowd altogether. Meanwhile, Tran was on hand as a presenter, promoting her new television series, “Claws.”

Tran reportedly agreed to present at the show about two months ago. At around the same time, she was in the middle of her restraining order battle with Brown. Earlier this month, a judge sided with the actress-model.

Brown avoided Tran, but was unable to side-step a confrontation with Karrueche’s rumored beau, Migos’ Quavo. The two artists’ camps clashed after the show.

Watch Diddy’s ‘Can’t Stop Won’t Stop’ Documentary

It was all a dream. After decades of possessing an inability to stop, Sean “Diddy” Combs finally releases the first part of his documentary series, Can’t Stop Won’t Stop: A Bad Boy Story.

Released exclusively through Apple Music, the 80-minute film showcases his tireless work in building the Bad Boy empire, one of the most influential hip-hop labels of all time. It includes insight about the Notorious B.I.G., Ma$e, Lil’ Kim, Faith Evans, and, of course, Puff Daddy himself, among other Bad Boy figures.

But more than that, the doc is meant to analyze fearlessness and success. “The story really evolved to a point where it wasn’t even just a story about our lives, it was a story about being fearless, about what it takes to get to a point of success,” Diddy told Complex. “That wasn’t the intention going into it, either, but you know, that’s where I’m at. I’m trying to make sure that the things that I do, the things that I show through my art or whatever is gonna have that impact. It’s gonna reaffirm the dream. The truth, at the end of the day, is what kind of makes [the film] something special. Everybody just told the naked truth.”

Still, this is only the beginning, according to Combs. “This is part one of a trilogy,” he said. “It was always an idea in my head that albums and certain lives are gonna actually be filmed live and then made into films. [I knew] that was how history would be told, and from recognizing that at a young age I always planned to [implement that]. Not to be self-serving but just to tell the truth, whether [the story is] good or bad, that’s how it really [happened].”

Bryson Tiller Drops Physical Copies of ‘True to Self’

Bryson Tiller’s True to Self is out again, this time in physical form. The Louisville crooner’s sophomore album, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last month, is being re-released with photography-themed packaging.

Chase Ichiki, the Creative Director of #JUSTAREGULARDAY — which manages Tiller — spoke about the creation of the packaging, which is designed around a vintage film canister.

“It is wrapped in silver mylar with a yellow sticker documenting the run time and other audio specs of the album, mimicking the metal containers film used to be delivered in,” said Ichiki. “Inside you’ll find the CD label art as a carousel tray of photo slides sitting on top of an overhead shot of a slide projector, representing the memories that were the inspiration behind all of the music on this project. As well as the definition of the phrase that titled the album, True to Self.”

According to Ichiki, the plan was to use every part of the packaging to help tell the story. “With the physical packaging of True to Self, Bryson and I wanted to build around a theme that represents his music and gives fans an experience from the moment they see it in stores,” added Ichiki. “We wanted to utilize every component of the album’s packaging from the versatility of a digipak’s panels, the disc art/tray, to the sticker that that goes on top of the package.”

That photography theme continues, since the album packaging now contains unseen photographs, photo slides, and a booklet of personal photos from Bryson’s personal photographer Ro.lexx.

In support of the new album, Pen Griffey is heading out on his “Set It Off Tour,” which kicks off in August. Dates were previously announced, however, Pen Affleck has just added a Los Angeles show at the Greek Theatre on Aug. 14 with special guests H.E.R. and Metro Boomin.
