Video: Sevyn Streeter feat. Gucci Mane – ‘Prolly’

Sevyn Streeter teams up with Gucci Mane in the Mad Max-inspired music video for “Prolly.”

With bikers and chiseled guys around her, Sevyn delivers a sassy rebellious anthem. “Did I go too far tonight?” she asks. “I don’t know. Prolly.”

Accompanied by digital distortion, a Moschino-clad Guwop delivers a hologram-esque cameo. Plus, he chooses to be more definitive with his verse. “The way I figure,” he raps. “Ain’t no prolly. I’m that ni**a.”

Streeter opened up about the post-apocalyptic clip in an interview with The FADER.

“Though I’m definitely a fan of Mad Max, I honestly can’t take responsibility for this creative vision,” she said. “I gotta hand it to my director Mike Ho! He turned the feeling and vibes I had while writing ‘Prolly’ into reality! I knew the song was unapologetic, raw, and edgy and he created a treatment/environment that brought it to life!”

“Prolly” is the first in a new monthly video series leading up to Sevyn’s debut album Girl Interrupted. Due early next year, the project will feature guest spots from DeJ Loaf, Ty Dolla $ign, August Alsina, and Dave East over production from the likes The-Dream, Sean Garrett, and Bangladesh.

NFL Says Adele Was Not Offered Super Bowl Halftime Show

The NFL takes on Adele.

Just a day after the British superstar said she declined an offer to perform at next year’s Super Bowl halftime show, the National Football League is denying that it extended an invitation, according to Billboard.

“First of all, I’m not doing the Super Bowl,” she told fans at Los Angeles’ Staples Center on Saturday (Aug. 13). “I mean, come on, that show is not about music. And I don’t really — I can’t dance or anything like that. They were very kind, they did ask me, but I said no.”

On Sunday, the NFL and Pepsi — partners in the halftime show — offered a joint statement regarding Adele’s remarks.

“The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele,” they said. “We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else. We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston and we look forward to revealing that in good time.”

There is still plenty of time to come up with a performer. Super Bowl LI is scheduled to take place on Feb. 5, 2017 at Houston’s NRG Stadium.

Beyoncé, Coldplay, and Bruno Mars provided the halftime entertainment at this year’s Super Bowl.

YG ft Drake & Kamaiyah – Why You Always Hatin? (Music Video)

Lamborghini’s and Mercedes Benz’, from the commercial strip to the beach; YG takes listeners for a glimpse of what it looks like to ride alongside him, with the video for “Why You Always Hatin?” Joining collaborators Kamaiyah and Drake the threesome stunt throughout Compton in the video, as they go about eating at a table built for kings and sipping out of golden grails, before ending the visual in a back yard mansion pool.

YG dropped the visual for the third single off of his sophomore album “Still Brazy” at the turn of the summer, right before he looks to catch a second wind with the soon to be released “400 Summers” record with DJ Mustard. Having just completed his work alongside G-Eazy, Logic and Yo Gotti on the Endless Summer tour, plenty more opportunities to capitalize off of his notable exposure are sure to arise.

Cam Newton Says "We're Beyond Race, As a Nation"

From his touchdown celebrations to his fashion sense, to the way he reacts to losing games, Cam Newton has been under heavy criticism for his most of his professional career. The quarterback position is usually occupied by Caucasian players like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning; so some say the criticism of Newton is because he’s African-American. Newton himself has agreed with that assertion in the past but now he feels differently.

“It’s not racism,” Newton says when asked by GQ if football fans are racist towards him.  “Everybody’s entitled to their own opinion.”

So if it’s not racism then what is it?

“I’ll let you be the judge. I don’t look at it like that. I look at it like some people have certain beliefs, and I have my own belief, and we can agree to disagree on certain things. But this is what makes sports so amazing, that we can start a discussion around a table, in the newspaper, in the magazines, that will get people’s attention. And that’s what sports does.”

Newton answer differed back in January when he said, “I’m an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen nothing that they can compare me to.”

This time around, his answer is contrary to that opinion.  “I don’t want this to be about race because it’s not,” he says.  “It’s not. Like, we’re beyond that.  As a nation.”

“I mean, you bring it to people’s attention. But after that, that’s it.”

Anderson .Paak on Working with Dr. Dre, Eminem, Ice Cube, & Kendrick Lamar

Meeting Dr. Dre is a rarity theses days, especially for aspiring artists. Before Anderson .Paak landed on the cover of 2016’s XXL Freshman issue, he says he received a call from DJ Dahi to work on some music for Dr. Dre’s project. .Paak says he thought meeting the famed producer seemed so far fetched that he buried the idea in the back of his mind. However, once in the studio, people started buzzing about his song “Suede” and suggested that they let Dr. Dre listen to it. Once Dre heard it—after several replays—he began working with .Paak, which ultimately landed him on six songs on the Compton album alongside, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and Ice Cube to name a few.

In this interview with DJ Vlad, .Paak admits that he didn’t know what project he was initially working for, but later discovered that Dre wanted to step away from Detox because he wasn’t happy with the finished product and wanted something fresh. The recording artist said with the Compton album, “he was pushing to do something he’d never done before, and he was taking risks and chances.”

Sheriff David Clarke Calls National Guard To Milwaukee

Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker activated the National Guard to be prepared if local police call upon their deployment to the city of Milwaukee on Sunday, [August 15]. The move to involve the reserved military force came by recommendation of Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, whose vocal opposition to the Black Lives Matter movement brought him to the forefront of the discourse around crime and police brutality in the Black community, during the height of racial tensions in July. Clarke’s call to action comes after the second day of unrest following the shooting of a 23-year-old Black man police claim to have been armed while fleeing from a traffic stop.

“We cannot allow for a repeat of what happened (Saturday) night. I am going to utilize all available resources to accomplish that,” Clarke stated. On Sunday there were additional reports of shooting, the destruction of property, and injury, including a car fire, along with the wounding of an 18-year-old male by a bullet, and medical attention sought for a police officer who was hurt when a rock smashed the windshield of his cruiser. It all happened as police in riot gear moved in to disperse a crowd after 11 p.m. Several protesters were reported to have been arrested. Footage from the scene of the uprisings grabbed national headlines, with photos and videos of fires and shooting traveling the web.

“What happened tonight may not have been right, and I am not justifying that, but no one can deny the fact that there are problems, racial problems in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, that need to be rectified,” City Alderman Khalif Rainey said. Tempers flared among many, while others in the community came together to assist in the clean-up of the damage and help re-institute calm. “This community of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has become the worst place to live for African-Americans in the entire country.”

Local politicians are said to be meeting with community leaders to discuss a strategy on how to move forward, with the potential for even greater angst as investigators prepare to put out their findings on what exactly occurred between the yet identified suspects and police. Officials have said they will be releasing footage from the firing officer’s body camera, as it remains unclear whether at any point the victim in fact reached for a fire arm. In any case, Sheriff Clarke can be expected to take a hard line approach in light of the fact that he has been somewhat anointed to be one of the nation’s spokespersons for law and order, as was indicated by his invitation to speak at the Republican National Convention last month in Cleveland.
